ReSTOR Implant

All cataract surgery requires the placement of lens implants to replace the defective natural lens (your cataract) removed with surgery. To better serve your needs, we offer a choice of implant styles. When necessary, by combining LASIK with your cataract surgery, we also offer less need for glasses after cataract surgery.

Traditional Cataract Surgery

Traditional cataract surgery involves placement of a monofocal lens implant.

Cataract Surgery to Improve Unaided Near, Intermediate and Distance Vision

This involves placement of a ReSTOR or a Multifocal implant to provide "full focus" vision at all distances. Changing the implant position in the eye adjusts the lens focal length.

Insurance will not cover the cost of ReSTOR or steps to correct unaided distance vision. LASIK, if needed, is covered with the cost of the ReSTOR implant surgery.

CK (Conductive Keratoplasty)

Due to normal aging of the lens, people over age forty begin to experience difficulty with near vision, a condition known as Presbyopia. Treatment usually involves nonprescription reading glasses or magnifiers. Conductive Keratoplasty is designed to restore reading vision without reading glasses.

Conductive Keratoplasty is a quick office procedure, with an impressive safety record. In approximately 200.000 cases since FDA approval, the infection rate has been 0%. CK uses a radiofrequency probe to precisely place a ring of small heated spots on the cornea. The heated spots shrink corneal tissue to produce a cinching effect when placed in a symmetric ring. This steepens the cornea, providing controlled near vision to set one eye for reading. This differs from traditional monovision because CK impacts distance vision less severely and creates a more monofocal cornea.

The ideal CK patient is over age forty-five, with good uncorrected distance vision and low astigmatism. So, previous LASIK patients do especially well. Conductive Keratoplasty can also be used to treat low degrees of farsightedness for patients under age 40.
