Ophthalmic Technician

About this Position

A busy, patient-focused private ophthalmology practice is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic Ophthalmic Technician. We are looking for a motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering excellent patient care. COA preferred but not required. Must be a team player and be flexible with schedule, including some Saturdays. Skill requirements are general knowledge of eye anatomy and diseases, ability to check intraocular pressure readings, refract, and obtain a detailed history. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required with proficiency in electronic medical record and electronic prescribing.

Daily Duties:

Read glasses prescription on lensometer
Autorefraction
Use of EMR in Officemate and Examwriter
Visual acuity, refraction, tonometry, ocular motility, color vision, Schirmer test, and additional exam room testing requested by eye doctor
Assist in minor procedures
Maintains instruments and equipment
Ability to perform HVF, OCT, Pentacam, Orbscan, Optos, A-scan
Basic level of understanding of contact lens care
Triage patient phone calls
Assist in faxing chart notes to referring doctors and primary care doctors
Prescription refills and prior authorizations
Scheduling surgical procedures (YAG, SLT, Argon Laser) in office
Scheduling Cataract surgery and other surgeries at Surgery Center
Scheduling outside testing (imaging)
Scribing in the EMR depending on doctor preferences
