Optometric (OD) Technician

About this Position

A fast-paced, patient-centered private eye care practice is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Optometric Technician. We are looking for a dependable team player who thrives in a dynamic environment and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care. Skill requirements are general knowledge of eye anatomy, eye diseases, medications, and eye drops. Contact lens experience is preferred to educate patients on use and wear of many types of lenses. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to obtain a detailed history are required with proficiency in electronic medical records and electronic prescribing.

Daily Duties:

• Read glasses prescription on lensometer
• Autorefraction
• Chief Compliant, ROS, Medication history taking
• Visual acuity and additional exam room testing requested by eye doctor (stereo/fly)
• Maintains instruments and equipment
• Use of EMR in Officemate and Examwriter
• Ability to perform HVF and OCT preferred
• Basic level of understanding of contact lens care and types of contacts
• Contact lens polishing/cleaning of RGP lenses
• Triage patient phone calls
• Assist in faxing chart notes to referring doctors and primary care doctors
• Prescription refills and prior authorization
• Scheduling outside testing (imaging)
