LASIK Alternatives

Laser Assisted Epithelial Keratectomy

LASEK is an eye surgery that combines many of the benefits of other vision correction surgeries. Laser epithelial keratomileusis, or LASEK, combines benefits of the two most commonly performed procedures — LASIK and PRK. LASEK eye surgery is used to treat astigmatism, nearsightedness, or farsightedness.

This procedure is used when the cornea (front surface of the eye) is too thin and cannot sustain a flap for LASIK. Foregoing flap creation preserves tissue and ensures that the cornea or front surface of the eye is not excessively thinned.

Anterior Chamber Implant

This procedure is best for patients who are too nearsighted for LASIK. This implant is centered in front of the pupil and attached to the iris (the colored part of the eye). The implant works as a glasses or contact lens prescription within the eye. The natural crystalline lens of the eye is left in place and untouched within the eye.
