The Vision Care Center is now able to add another step to your cataract surgery that allows your glaucoma to be treated in a completely new way with an iStent Trabecular Micro Bypass Stent. This is important because once diagnosed with glaucoma, you and most patients like you will spend the rest of your lives taking one, two or even three different prescription eye drops. Unfortunately, you will need to use these drops every day, which will not only be inconvenient but potentially very expensive. The iStent Trabecular Micro Bypass Stent can help with this, and you can have it done at the same time you have cataract surgery.
What is iStent?
iStent is the smallest medical device approved by the FDA and is placed during cataract surgery. It is invisible to the naked eye, and patients are unable to feel it. It is designed to create a permanent opening in a part of the eye called the trabecular meshwork to improve the outflow of fluid from your eyes to help control eye pressure. It is indicated for mild to moderate open angle glaucoma patients currently using glaucoma eye drops
